How Bentley helped inspire the start of Small Town Floyd Girl
So the long version of the story is here: https://smalltownfloydgirl.com/a-new-journey-lets-drop-a-pin/
I wrote a longer version of the story in another blog post that talks about my business journey, but really just wanted to focus this post on sweet Bentley, himself and why I chose to highlight him on my website vs. my own dogs.
You see, I’m a big dog fan. I grew up with dogs all my life, but we were only allowed toy poodles due to their small size and fact that they did not shed. When I moved out on my own, I knew I wanted a large breed dog. My first dog? A Rottweiler we named Kyan. While a rottie had not been my choice, after having one, I fell in love with the breed. Large, strong, incredibly smart and absolutely loyal. But yes, Rotties and Mastiffs I just love. To the point, I’ve gone up to complete strangers and asked for selfies with their dog! LOL.
So when I met Chris Patterson through a Facebook group where I’d enrolled in some training and I saw his boy, Bentley, I for sure was giving that furry baby post a “heart” and commenting what a handsome “pup”. I found myself with an opportunity to attend a mastermind in January of 2020 that was hosted by Chris Patterson and Matt Plapp. While I wanted to go, I was uncertain about going and spending the money for flight, hotel and conference. I had inquired about the conference, but wasn’t sure it was “for me”. Finally, after talking to Chris, he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse… he promised me I could meet Bentley.

So you might say, I flew to Florida just to meet Bentley. LOL. But truthfully, I had invested in myself, and that investment for sure would instill growth in my professional life and I still say one of the best things I ever did…. but Bentley was definitely the incentive that got me there.
The mastermind in Florida gave me a jolt of positivity, energy, boost in attitude and confidence. The trainings were FULL of golden nuggets. I also came back home with a wild idea… what if I started a Facebook page and YouTube channel called “Small Town Floyd Girl“? It would focus on small businesses and general fun info in my hometown and offer a way to share a business’ story and enlighten those who travel through the town about all it has to offer. I ran it by the group (“my people”). They all said it was a great idea and so in June of 2020 I launched the page. It’s grown to nearly 7000 followers at this point and a recent video post on Facebook this past week has gained nearly 50,000 views, 749 Likes/Loves, and 46 shares.
I’m excited to continue to watch Small Town Floyd Girl grow and evolve because I’m no longer limiting it to just Floyd, but also surrounding areas to feature small businesses. Because everyone needs an opportunity to share their story! Hope you’re enjoying mine!
