This week’s business feature is focused on Wildwood Farms! This year they are celebrating their 25th Anniversary!
If you go just almost 5 miles south of the stoplight on 221, you’ll come up on Wildwood Farms occupying about 2 acres of land on your right. Owners, Judy and Bob Bowman started the field grown daylily farm in 1999 and started selling the public in 2000. Both had a love of gardening instilled in them from their mothers and fell in love with daylilies in particular because of the variety of colors, bloom styles and ease of care. Their start came from traveling to Cherokee, NC and bringing home inventory to start their own cultivation growing selections that were both beautiful and stable to thrive in Floyd’s climate.

The farm has truly been a labor of love. They’ve had lots of help from their families to make it what it is today. In 2013 they added the general store to the farm. In the store, you’ll find garden supplies, garden décor, home décor and unique gift ideas. You’ll also find “Mama’s Pantry” where they offer a variety of foods including bulk beans, VA canned jams, VA grown nuts, local grains and a selection of bulk candies and foods. Judy tries to keep Virginia grown things in stock from local sources as often as she can.

If you drop by and find yourself hungry, you should also take a taste from “George’s Kitchen”. There you’ll find hand dipped ice cream, pizza, sandwiches and more. I’ve had the ice cream and I’ve had the BBQ sandwich which was REALLY good! I’ve seen some images of some great looking burgers, too!
It truly seems to be a hidden gem that is missed if you don’t leave the center of town, yet has SO MUCH to offer… like LIVE Bluegrass or old-time Bluegrass music on select Saturday nights during the Spring and Summer (FREE, no cover-charge!). On the first and third Sundays of the month during the Spring and Summer they also offer music jams and classic car cruise-ins! Bob and Judy want to keep their events free for the public so everyone has somewhere to go. They do this to express gratitude to all the hard-working, kind, and caring people who make Floyd what it is!
For the most up-to-date event information, you can check their Facebook page, website or call the store.
