You Don’t Have to Leave Floyd to Get Away From It All: Discover Green Acres Resort
Looking for a unique place to stay in Floyd, Virginia? Meet Green Acres Resort—a laid-back getaway where vintage campers, a spring-fed swimming pond, pickleball, open fields and the charm of downtown Floyd all come together.
Watch the Small Town Floyd Girl feature:
Sometimes getting away doesn’t mean driving for hours.
Sometimes, you just need to find a place where you can slow down, breathe a little deeper, sit by the water and remember what it feels like to have nowhere you need to be.
That’s exactly what you’ll find at Green Acres Resort in Floyd, VA.
Located on 16 acres at 400 Baker Street (just at the edge of town), Green Acres offers something that’s becoming increasingly hard to find: a true getaway that’s still just a short walk from everything that makes Floyd special. In fact, the resort is only about a four-minute walk from the Floyd Country Store and downtown Floyd.
And once you arrive, you might have a hard time believing you’re that close to town!

Vintage Camping With a Floyd Twist
One of the things that makes Green Acres Resort so unique is the accommodations!
Rather than a traditional hotel room, guests can stay in beautifully restored vintage campers, each with its own personality and charm!
It’s glamping—but with a distinctly Floyd feel.
The vintage campers combine the nostalgia of classic camping with modern comforts, creating a stay that’s cozy, memorable and just a little bit different.
And then there’s Connie… Connie is an original Conestoga supply wagon that has been restored into an incredibly unique place to stay—with a queen-size bed tucked inside. Yes, you read that right: you can spend the night in a covered wagon in the middle of Floyd.
That’s the kind of Floyd experience you don’t forget!
Come for the Vintage Campers. Stay for the Pond.
Green Acres isn’t just about where you sleep. The 16-acre property gives guests plenty of room to spread out, play, relax and enjoy the outdoors.
One of the biggest attractions is the spring-fed swimming pond and sandy beach.
You can take a swim, sit on the dock, relax by the water or simply enjoy the scenery. Guest reviews frequently mention the pond and beach as highlights, along with the opportunity to see wildlife around the property.
There’s also plenty of open space to throw a Frisbee, have a picnic, walk your pup or simply find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the day.
And if you’re looking for a little friendly competition? Grab a paddle and head to the pickleball courts!

Green Acres has made pickleball part of the experience, giving guests another reason to spend the afternoon enjoying the property rather than heading somewhere else.
There’s Something to Be Said for Doing Absolutely Nothing
That’s perhaps what I love most about the idea behind Green Acres. You don’t have to fill your entire weekend with activities.
You can swim.
Play pickleball.
Sit around the fire pit.
Play lawn games.
Take the dog for a walk.
Watch the deer and birds.
Enjoy a cup of coffee outside your camper.
Or just…be.
The resort itself describes the experience as a place to “relax, kick back and breathe,” and that really does seem to capture the spirit of the property.
One guest described watching wildlife from the campsite and swimming area, while also appreciating how close Green Acres is to the shops and restaurants of Floyd. Another praised the clean bathhouse and showers.
And Then There’s Floyd…
Here’s the part that makes Green Acres especially appealing.
You’re camping—but you’re not really away from town.
You’re close enough to walk to the Floyd Country Store, grab a bite to eat, browse local shops, listen to music and experience the quirky, creative energy that makes Floyd, Virginia such a special little mountain town.
Spend your afternoon swimming at Green Acres.
Walk downtown for dinner.
Catch some music.
Grab a morning coffee.
Then stroll back to your camper and sit around the fire under the stars.
That’s a pretty great Floyd weekend.
And when you’re ready to explore farther, Green Acres is also conveniently located for adventures around the area, including destinations such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill and Chateau Morrisette.
A Place That’s Still Growing
There’s another part of the Green Acres story that I find particularly interesting.
It’s a place that’s still evolving.
Guests have commented on the property being a “work in progress,” but in the best possible way—there’s a sense that something is being built here, and that visitors get to watch it develop.
Owner Bruce is described by guests as enthusiastic about the property and proud to share both what has already been created and what’s still ahead.
And honestly, that feels pretty Floyd to me.
It’s not about creating something cookie-cutter and polished until there’s no personality left.
It’s about taking an idea, putting some hard work and imagination behind it, and creating a place people want to come back to.
Want to See Green Acres for Yourself?
I recently had the opportunity to take a closer look at Green Acres Resort, and I put together a video (at the top of the page) so you can see some of what makes this place so special.
If you’ve been looking for unique places to stay in Floyd, VA, a weekend of glamping in Floyd, or simply a different way to experience the Blue Ridge Mountains, Green Acres Resort is definitely worth putting on your list.
Because sometimes the best getaway isn’t the one that’s miles away.
Sometimes it’s the one that’s right here in your own backyard.
