Local Business Feature: Blue Ridge Diner

Not always do I get to get out to do interviews with businesses, but that’s not going to stop me from telling you about businesses I find, business I know of, and business I just plain LOVE!

One of those businesses I just plain LOVE? Blue Ridge Diner located in our sweet hometown of Floyd County. I’ve often told people, “It’s the best breakfast in town,” and “If you’re visiting, you HAVE to got to go there!” In my opinion, you won’t find better hospitality anywhere. Travis Crawford and his wife Kristin purchased the place in September of 2020 and opened in November of the same year. If you remember, 2020 was the year of COVID when so many restaurants were shut down and very restricted. I can only imagine starting a restaurant in 2020 couldn’t have been an easy task. However, 5 years later, now 2025, they make it look EASY! Their great team hustles every morning and lunch to bring you smiles and great food that will put a smile on your face, too!

The building in which the Blue Ridge Diner is located was originally constructed in 1897 and was originally the Bank of Floyd. When you visit, you’ll still see the Vault! Travis and Kristin are hometown people, both having graduated from Floyd County High School. They share a deep love for good food and community. They were happy to be able to have a restaurant right here at home in Floyd.

Most recently, WDBJ-7 created a Restaurant Rumble where over 60 restaurants were nominated to compete. Kristin recalls that we saw the Facebook page continually getting tagged and when she found out they were in the running. Each week, people voted for their favorite until it was narrowed to the final four and then the final two and then the “Chompion” was awarded… and the top restaurant winning the votes was Blue Ridge Diner! See the video below Logan Sherrill delivered their award trophy.

Again, I LOVE this place and I love the people. My favorite breakfast entree is “The Ridge”, but you can’t go wrong with those huge pancakes or waffles either. I remember the first time my kids had a waffle there, their first comment was, “This is SO MUCH BETTER than waffle house!” Yes, that’s what happens when you find a GREAT local place. It’s often WAY better than a chain. My husband favors the BBQ Burger for lunch. I’ve never had anything I didn’t like there.

So, if you haven’t given this place a try… it’s a MUST! Tell them the Small Town Floyd Girl sent you. Oh, and by the way, you might even see some of the staff wearing my Small Town Floyd Girl tanks on your visit!
