About Me
Small Town Floyd Girl is Teresa Martin, a Floyd County native, living in Floyd County her entire life. She has taken interest in sharing about the county and its attractions and businesses to both visitors as well as residents.
The Beginning
Small Town Floyd Girl started as a YouTube channel which quickly spanned more into Facebook and some Instagram posts with the mission of highlighting activities and businesses within the area for both visitors and residents. By visiting businesses and attending events within the county and documenting them via video and pictures, her hope is that the social channels and the blog on this website will become “go-to” places to search and learn about all things Floyd AND also surrounding areas where Floydians and visitors travel for work and play.
Where the Passion of Small Business Ignited
Teresa and fellow co-worker, Stephen Smiroldo started web design business StudioThought in 2009 during an economic downturn when the company they worked for laid off many long-time employees due to a corporate merger. While they had wanted to focus on Architectural Computer Animation, they quickly realized small businesses needed help with web design and getting found on the internet.
Websites are only a starting point for small businesses. To be found requires search engine optimiations, search engine marketing, social media marketing and other marketing tactics. Teresa immerses herself into learning the various and ever-changing digital tools available to help support small businesses.
While working for a roadshow producing content similar to “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” where episodes are exclusive to social media, she often heard the question of “Why aren’t you on network TV?” as she spoke with restaurant owners all over the country. Teresa knew businesses could do a lot digitally to reach their desired audiences, however, there is still MUCH to be said about the use of television, especially in the more rural areas.
She now works for WFXR-TV as a Account Executive helping to custom-tailor an advertising/marketing plan for small businesses all throughout southwest Virginia. Through her position, she can offer small businesses television commercials as well as the full gamut of digital advertising such as Google Display Ads, Facebook Ads, Pre-Roll, Connected-TV and more!
